TEMPE, Ariz. -- While the Arizona State women's tennis team couldn't complete the upset over No. 2 California on Friday afternoon, junior Kassidy Jump came out victorious over No. 5 Klara Fabikova.

"That was a great win for Kass," said head coach Sheila McInerney. "Obviously Fabikova is very, very good player. For Kass, it's a great match-up because she likes the way Klara hits the ball big like she does. Kassidy didn't have to play a lot of long points today, but to her credit, that's a really good win for her for sure."

The No. 36 Sun Devils clinched the doubles point to get off to a 1-0 start thanks to victories by seniors Desirae Krawczyk and Stephanie Vlad on court two and juniors Kassidy Jump and Gussie O'Sullivan on court three. No. 30 doubles pair of Ebony Panoho and Alex Osborne was neck-and-neck with No. 6 Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr at four-all when it was abandoned.

The Golden Bears evened it out at one-point all after Lynn Chi defeated Pahoho on court three, 6-3, 6-1.

Not long after, Jump clinched her match over Fabikova after a long and emotional match. Back and forth power shots favored Jump as she rolled to a 6-3, 6-4 upset victory.

That would be the one and only individual victory for the Devils in singles, but several were nail biters.

McInerney says unlike most sports, the women are on an island and have to be strong minded on the court.

"At this point it's more on each individual more so than the team," she said. "You have to have a little bit more resolve and be a little bit tougher. We have another really good team coming in and we just have to play better."

Stanford -- ranked No. 20 -- comes into Tempe winning five-straight, including a big upset over then-No. 7 Florida and a 5-2 victory over Arizona on Friday.

Several Stanford women return that are familiar to the Sun Devil women, but the Cardinal also brings several new freshmen to the fold as well.

The match begins at Noon MT and will be live streamed here. You can also follow live stats as well.
