TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State baseball legend Rick Monday will be inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the 2016 class, the College Baseball Foundation announced Thursday.

Monday’s induction into the NCBHOF pushes ASU’s total to 11, the most hall of famers from a single school in college baseball.

Monday joins coaching legends Bobby Winkles and Dr. Jim Brock in the NCBHOF, as well as Golden Spikes Award winners Bob Horner, Mike Kelly and Oddibe McDowell, pitchers Joe Arnold, Eddie Bane and Floyd Bannister, and infielders Sal Bando and Alan Bannister.

Monday helped ASU win the 1965 national championship in his sole varsity season in Tempe and was The Sporting News National Player of the Year behind a .359 batting average with 11 home runs, including two in the College World Series. He became the first-ever player drafted by Major League Baseball as he went No. 1 overall to the Kansas City A’s in the first MLB Amateur Draft in 1965. He played 19 seasons in the Majors, was two-time All-Star and won a World Series in 1981 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Monday was inducted into the ASU Hall of Fame in 1975 and his number 27 was honored by the Sun Devil Baseball program in 1997.
