TEMPE, Ariz.—Arizona State wrestling’s freshman heavyweight Tanner Hall was named to The Open Mat’s 2016 All-Freshman Team, the organization announced.
During his freshman season, Hall posted a 26-12 overall record with a 12-6 mark in dual matches. Hall finished third at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships in his weight class, and earned one of the three automatic bids to the NCAA Championships, where he was one of two Sun Devils to advance to the Friday night blood round.
Along with his third-place finish at Pac-12s, Hall finished as the heavyweight runner-up at the Midlands Championships this past December and fourth place at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite, also in December.
Hall is just one of two wrestlers from the Pac-12 Conference to be recognized on any of the four The Open Mat teams, joining Stanford’s freshman Joey McKenna, who was recognized at 141 pounds.
The other heavyweights honored were a trio of All-Americans in NCAA Champion Kyle Snyder (Ohio State, sophomore), third-place finisher Adam Coon (Michigan, junior), and NCAA runner-up Nick Gwiazdowski (NC State, senior).
