TEMPE, Ariz.—The Arizona State beach volleyball team will travel to Tucson on Friday for matches against CSU Bakersfield and Cal State Northridge, as part of the Wildcat Spring Challenge at the Sand Volleyball Courts at Jimenez Field.
ASU will take on the Roadrunners at 9:30 a.m. PT and then face off against the Matadors at 5:30 p.m. PT.
ABOUT CSU BAKERSFIELD
The Roadrunners are 2-4 on the season, after splitting a home series with GCU and CSUN. The No. 1 pair of Sydney Haynes and Carol Grasso have only lost one match this season when the Roadrunners were swept by GCU on March 19. The Roadrunners only other win came against Concordia-Irvine on March 5.
ABOUT CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE
The Matadors are 1-5 on the season after dropping both matches at the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex in Bakersfield last week. Their only win came against CSU Bakersfield in the 2016 opener on March 3. This will be the third match-up of the season for CSUB and CSUN.
UP NEXT
The Sand Devils head to Hawaii next week for the Outrigger Beach Volleyball Challenge on April 1-2. On Friday, ASU will take on Hawaii and UCLA at 4 p.m. HT and 6 p.m. HT, respectively. An all-day pairs tournament will follow on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT
The Sand Devils went 2-1 last week at the New Mexico Spring Beach Volleyball Tournament with a 4-1 win against Colorado Mesa and a sweep of New Mexico State before they fell to host New Mexico, 4-1.
The junior duo of Bianca Arellano and Whitney Follette went 3-0 on the weekend with two sweeps and one come-from-behind three-set victory.
THE 2016 HOME SLATE
The Sand Devils host three more matches at home at the PERA Club this season. On Saturday, April 16, ASU hosts a doubleheader against San Diego State and Grossmont College at 8:30 a.m. PT and 1 p.m. PT, respectively.
Senior Night and the home finale is slated for Wednesday, April 20, against Pac-12 rival Arizona at 5 p.m. PT.
THE 2016 PAC-12 BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The inaugural Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championships is slated for April 28 to May 1 in Los Angeles, Calif., hosted by USC at the Merle Norman Stadium. The matches are slated to air on the Pac-12 Networks.
Beach volleyball is the Pac-12 Conference’s 23rd sponsored sport.
ABOUT BEACH VOLLEYBALL
Beach volleyball is contested with five pairings in the best of three sets, which are played to 21 points. The tiebreaker third set is played to 15.
The team win goes to the squad that secures three of the five wins throughout the match.
