EUGENE -- The Arizona State women's tennis team pulled off another close Pac-12 match on Sunday afternoon, and this time against the University of Oregon on the road.
The No. 25 Sun Devils (10-4, 4-1) ended the No. 30 Ducks' (11-3, 3-1) nine-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory at the Student Tennis Center.
"I'm really proud of the team today, as we battled hard and played well against a very good Oregon team," said head coach Sheila McInerney. "Once again, our doubles came through and we really had the momentum going into the singles matches. I thought Desirae and Ebony played extremely well and helped us get off to a great 3-0 lead, and Gussie once again was the clincher."
One thing McInerney emphasized was the doubles point against a tough Oregon squad who had success thus far this season in doubles.
Junior Kassidy Jump and freshman Sammi Hampton -- ranked No. 69 in the country -- continued their success as a duo, winning their 10th-straight game together over Marlou Kluiving and Daniela Nasser for the first doubles match, 6-1.
On court two, senior combo of Desirae Krawczyk and Stephanie Vlad didnt' continue a win streak, but instead ended one. The two ended Nia Rose and Alyssa Tobita's nine-game winning streak with a 6-1 dominate victory to clinch the doubles point for ASU.
Senior Ebony Panoho dominated her singles match as well, cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 win on court three over Rose for the 2-0 team lead.
Oregon's Alyssa Tobita then cut the lead in half on court two, giving Jump -- ranked No. 54 -- her first singles loss since Feb. 28 against Ohio State.
Krawczyk -- ranked No. 23 in singles -- put the Devils on the brink of clinching against Kennan Johnson, who was a perfect 5-0 on the season against ranked opponents. Krawczyk ended that streak, winning the tiebreak in the first set, 7-6(3), then rolling to a 6-2 victory in the second set.
Yet again, it was junior Gussie "The Grinder" O'Sullivan coming up clutch for the Devils. O'Sullivan won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, over Micheline Aubuchon to give ASU the fourth and clinching point.
"This was a big match for us as it was our third conference match in a row on the road, and this win should help us moving forward," said McInerney. "We've got the next five matches at home and we're looking forward to playing in front of our home crowd."
The women return home for a match with San Diego State on Saturday, March 26 at noon.
