ATLANTA -- Sophomore diver Mara Aiacoboae made the podium on Saturday evening at the NCAA Diving Championships in Atlanta, Ga. with a third-place finish in the 10-meter platform event.
The Romania-native improved on her fourth-place finish from 2015, earning a score of 289.10 to be named a first-team All-American for the second-straight year.
"Podium always feels great even if would have just been a dual meet," said Aiacoboae. "But, especially because it is NCAA's. It feels like all the work that my coach and I put in during this season paid off. I was very happy to end this season with a nice result after many competitions in a row."
Aiacoboae entered the finals in fourth place after scoring a 286.60 in the prelims, behind Stanford's Lillian Hinrichs.
While she moved ahead of Hinrichs by meets end, she had Northwestern's Olivia Rosendahl right on her heels -- who ended up finishing less than four points behind Aiacoboae.
The championship season in the platform event spelled lots of success for Aiacoboae, placing third at the Pac-12 Championships, second at the NCAA Zone E Championships and now third. She also placed first in the event at the University of Texas Diving Invitational and the dual meet versus Northern Arizona.
