ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—The Arizona State beach volleyball team (4-4) picked up a 4-1 victory in its rematch with Colorado Mesa (0-7), ASU’s first match at the New Mexico Spring Beach Volleyball Tournament at Lucky 66 Bowl.
The Sand Devils opened with a win at the No. 4 pair, with Mia Rivera and Jourdan Parnell defeating Mackenzie Edwards and Hattie Gianinetti in straight sets, 21-12, 21-11. At No. 2, Kwyn Johnson and Sydney Palmer also picked up the straight-set win, defeating Hana Peterman and Naomi Pinnecoose, 21-15, 21-19.
ASU clinched the match with a win at No. 5, Frances Giedraitis and Logan Rae teaming up for the first time this season to defeat Natalee Todd and Rachael Moralez, 21-9, 21-5.
At No. 1, Bianca Arellano and Whitney Follette bounced back from a first set loss, defeating Taylor Woods and Erin Perez in the final two sets, 16-21, 21-11, 15-6.
The lone loss at the day came in set four, with Madison Berridge and Bethany Wedepohl falling to Kricket Adelman and Megan Gianinetti, 22-20, 11-21, 15-11.
Action for the Sand Devils continues at the New Mexico Spring Beach Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, with ASU taking on New Mexico State at 11 a.m. PT/Noon MT and host New Mexico at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT.
