LOS ANGELES—The Arizona State beach volleyball team (3-3) won its first road match of the year, sweeping Loyola Marymount (1-3) on Thursday at USC’s Merle Norman Stadium.
ASU started the day with a win at the No. 4 position, with Mia Rivera and Jourdan Parnell sweeping Kristen Castellano and Nicky Kevorken, 21-10, 21-18. At No. 5, Natalie Braun and Kylie Pickrell bounced back from a first set loss to defeat Sara Kovac and Tatiana Schlange, 11-21, 21-17, 15-12.
At No. 1, Bianca Arellano and Whitney Follette clinched the match in ASU’s favor with a 21-19, 21-13 victory over Avery Bush and Sascha Dominique.
Madison Berridge and Bethany Wedepohl, playing at the No. 3 position, also bounced back from a first-set loss, defeating Jamie Lea and Erin Williams, 14-21, 21-13, 15-12. At the No. 2 position, Kwyn Johnson and Sydney Palmer capped the night with a19-21, 21-13, 15-12 victory over Lindsay Carr and Veronica Nederend.
Against the No. 2 Trojans (4-1), the Sun Devils fell, 5-0. The duo of Berridge and Wedepohl tried to make their second comeback of the night, forcing set three with the No. 3s duo of Nicolette Martin and Allie Wheeler, but ultimately fell, 2-21, 21-16, 10-15.
Up next, the Sun Devils cap the week on the road when they take on Long Beach State on Friday at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT.
