TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Pac-12 Conference announced on Wednesday that Arizona State junior Monica Vaughn is February's Female Golfer of the Month, becoming the first Sun Devil to earn the award since Noemi Jimenez in March of 2014.
"I am so exited for Mo for this honor," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "She has worked very hard for the past two years to get to this point in her career. She is an outstanding student-athlete and represents ASU and the Pac-12 Conference very well."
Vaughn, who is currently ranked No. 14 in the Women's World Amateur Golf Ranking, played arguably some of the best golf in her college career during the month of February.
Vaughn earned her first outright individual tournament victory at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Feb. 9 at Palos Verdes Golf Club. After starting the final round five strokes off the lead, Vaughn sunk seven birdies for a personal-best six-under 65 -- which tied for the second-best round in ASU history -- to win by three strokes. Her four-under 209 victory also came against a field that included the No. 1-4 ranked women in the country.
As if that wasn't enough of an emotional high for the junior, two weeks later she was one of just eight women to be selected to the 2016 USA Curtis Cup team. Vaughn became the first Sun Devil golfer to earn the honor since Jennifer Johnston in 2010, and just the second in the last 15 years. She also joined Sun Devil Hall of Famers Heather Farr, Kellee Booth, Wendy Ward, Danielle Ammaccapane, Emilee Klein, Jane Bastanchury-Booth, Pearl Sinn, Joanne Gunderson-Carner and Carol Sorenson as several of the 14 ever to be named to the Curtis Cup team.
Most recently in the Bruin Wave Invitational that wrapped up on Tuesday, March 1, Vaughn birdied nearly half of the holes on her final round, totaling eight to finish in a tie for ninth.
The veteran leader will get back on the course with the No. 12 Sun Devils on Monday, March 14 through Tuesday, March 15 in Tucson for the Wildcat Invitational.
