SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The Arizona State women's golf team picked up another top-three finish at the Bruin Wave Invitational, finishing in second place at the 6,250-yard, par-72 San Luis Obispo Country Club.
The No. 15 Sun Devils were in the hunt down the strech, largely in part to some of the best golf seen from sophomore Sophia Zeeb in her young ASU career and strong finishes by three of her teammates. However, Zeeb was unfortunately disqualified and her current par round that had her tied for second was nullified.

"I am very proud of my team and our second-place finish," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "Unfortunately, Sophia signed an incorrect scorecard the last day and consequently she was disqualified. That does not take away from her tremendous play for three rounds.
It's a mistake that can and does happen to many golfers throughout the course of a season, and one Farr-Kaye said is a teaching moment for her young team.
"I think it's important to remember that anyone can make that mistake," she said. "But you need to learn from it and never make it again. I think our team will from here on make sure that they triple check their scorecards before turning them in."
Zeeb tied her career-best on Monday with a two-under 70 on the first round. She was also one stroke out of the lead entering the final hole.
Junior Monica Vaughn had quite an afternoon, birdieing eight holes -- five on the front nine -- to shoot a two-under 70 on the day. She finished with a three-over 219 (75-74-70).
Vaughn finished in a tie for ninth that included freshman teammate Linnea Strom, who shot a three-under 69 for a combined three-over 219 (76-74-69).
"Top-15 finishes from Monica, Linnea & Madison (Kerley) were a tremendous help to our team today," said Farr-Kaye. "We have a short break and return to competition in two weeks."
As a team, the women finished ahead of No. 14 California by six strokes, No. 13 Oklahoma State by seven, No. 11 Stanford by 21 and No. 9 Washington by 31.
It becomes their fourth top-four finish on the season as well.
The Sun Devils will have an extra week to prepare for their next tournament, as they'll head south to Tucson for the Wildcat Invitational from Monday, March 14 to Tuesday, March 15 at Sewailo Golf Club.
