FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- In just her third-ever event wearing the maroon Arizona State swim cap, freshman Marlies Ross broke Mattie Kukors' 400 individual medley ASU record with a time of 4:09.23 to finish in fourth place at the Pac-12 Championships.
Ross' time was far inside the NCAA 'B' cut, and less than four seconds from the 'A' cut of 4:05.37. She was the first Sun Devil to compete in an 'A' event final so far this week.

In the women's 200-yard freestyle, junior Kat Simonovic clocked a 1:45.97, beating her previous best time by .01 seconds that currently sits at No. 2 in the ASU record books.
Freshman Kaya Philapil earned a 'B' but in the women's 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.32.
Off the high dive, sophomore Heikki Makikallio came in third in the men's 10-meter platform event with a score of 364.05.

The fourth and final day for the women swimmers and men and women divers begins Saturday.
At 11 a.m. PT (Noon MT), the women's 200-yard backstroke prelims will start off the day, followed by prelims of the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and the women's platform.
The 1650-yard freestyle will begin in the early evening at 4 p.m. PT (5 p.m. MT), with the finals of each of the day's prelims beginning at 6 p.m. PT (7 p.m. MT).
