"Shutouts aren't just a personal thing, it's a team thing,” Jacobson said. “So to pull together and shut them out for 60 minutes is a great thing."
It was a complete game for the Sun Devils. Not only did Jacobson lock it down on the home end of the ice, seven different ASU players recorded a goal, starting with junior forward Ryan Belonger’s game-winner at the 14:13 mark of the first period.
"We're a young team, young teams have to learn how to develop killer instinct, doesn't matter who they play,” head coach Greg Powers said.
Jacobson saved all 15 shots to come his way en route to the program’s first and his first collegiate shutout. After Belonger’s goal, the floodgates opened with tallies from Liam Norris, Nicholas Gushue, Anthony Croston, Joe Lappin, Cody Gylling and Ryan Ostertag.
Belonger, Norris, Lappin, Masters, Ed McGovern and Jordan Young all had multiple points, led by Norris’ goal and two helpers.
ASU plays its final road game of the season Friday, Feb. 19 when it travels down to Tucson for an exhibition game against ACHA Arizona. The Sun Devils return home Feb. 27 against the US National U-18 team.
