TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State University junior center Quinn Dornstauder was one of five players named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® VIII Team, according to an announcement by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Academic All-District™ teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
In every Academic All-District™ team selection, the First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. This year in the basketball Academic All-District™ listings, all honorees are first-team choices.
Dornstauder, who earned First-Team Pac-12 All-Academic recognition last year, currently maintains a 3.83 GPA in Biochemistry. She has played in every game (19 starts) and currently leads ASU in shot blocks (1.4 bpg - 7th in the Pac-12), is 2nd in scoring (9.7 ppg) and FT percentage (76.9) and 3rd in rebounding (5.0 rpg).
By virtue of being named to the first team, Dornstauder advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Last year the Sun Devil women’s basketball team was among the top 10 women’s basketball programs in the classroom. The squad’s combined team GPA of 3.558 was No. 7 among NCAA Division I institutions, according to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) 2015 Academic Team Honor Rolls, announced last July. ASU was one of only seven schools among the WBCA’s Top 25 that also participated in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. On the court, the Sun Devils recorded the best finish of schools appearing in the WBCA’s Top 25 after advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Since the 1996-97 season (Charli Turner Thorne’s first season at ASU) ASU leads the Pac-12 in the number of first-team All-Academic conference awards (17) and the combined number of first- and second-team All-Academic conference awards (37).
