BERKELEY, Calif. -- The Arizona State swimming and diving team wrapped up their two-day road trip at Cal on Saturday, Jan. 23.
Sophomore diver David Hoffer was the highlight of the meet, as he extended his win streak off the boards to four-straight after sweeping Friday's meet against Stanford. He earned a score of 336.30 for a 50-plus point win in the 1-meter dive and a 346.58 in the 3-meter dive victory.
In the swimming pool, junior Anna Olasz finished second in the first individual event -- the 1,000-meter race -- with a time of 10:17.34.
After turning in a time of 1:49.70 yesterday in the women's 200-yard freestyle, junior Katarina Simonovic earned third place with a time of 1:51.33. She also picked up second place in the women's 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:00.04.
Freshman Kaya Philapil competed hard in the women's 100-yard breaststroke, earning second behind Cal's Marina Garcia Urzainqui with a time of 1:04.62. She would later place the same in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:20.23.
After not participating in the men's 100-yard backstroke against Stanford, junior Richard Bohus returned for a second-place time of 49.11 -- just .38 seconds out of first. As if that wasn't close enough, he missed first place in the men's 100-yard freestyle by .01 seconds. The win would have made it three-straight victories after his return from injury.
Sophomore's Christian Lorenz and Patrick Park both also placed second in their respective events -- the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard butterfly. Like Philapil, Lorenz would also place second in back-to-back events as he turned in a time of 2:00.73 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
In the men's and women's 50-yard freestyle, juniors Alysha Bush and Tadas Duskinas turned in second-place performances for ASU.
Bush would also turn in a second-place time of 50.51 in the 100-yard freestyle.
The lone victory of the day in the pool would be by the men's 400-yard freestyle relay, as Park, Bohus, Duskinas and Barkley Perry recorded a 3:00.13.
The men and women will both enjoy a week off before welcoming in-state rival Arizona on Saturday, Feb. 6 at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
