SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The Arizona State swimming and diving squads left Stanford with a few victories under their belt thanks to a few junior swimmers and sophomore divers.

"We had a few swimmers earn some big victories for us today and I'm proud of our team competing to the best of their ability," said head coach Bob Bowman. "I think we learned a lot about ourselves as a team against one of the best squads in the country."

In the women's second individual event of the day, junior Katarina Simonovic held off Stanford's Ally Howe for the victory in the women's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.70. It was her third first-place finish of the season.

Simonovic would also go on to finish second in the women's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.06.

Three events later in the men's 50-yard freestyle, junior Tadas Duskinas battled hard in between Stanford's Spencer DeShon and Connor Black. Duskinas finished a miniscule .01 seconds behind DeShon as they hit the wall.

In the men's 200-yard butterfly, sophomore Patrick Park entered the race having not lost a race all season. Stanford junior Jimmy Yoder would end that streak despite them coming to the wall neck and neck, as Park finished .45 seconds behind him with a time of 1:46.98 -- a full second better than the NCAA 'B' standard qualifying time.

Junior Richard Bohus -- who returned from an injury last weekend to win the men's 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke -- continued his streak with a victory in the men's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.23.

His junior teammate Barkley Perry wanted to join the party and touched nearly a second ahead of Stanford's Patrick Conaton, who had won his last two meets in the 200-yard backstroke. It became Perry's sixth victory in the event out of seven this season.

In the deep end of the pool, the ASU divers picked up wins in three of the four events. Sophomore David Hoffer won the men's 1-meter and 3-meter dives in dominating fashion.

For the women, sophomore Mara Aiacoboae edged Stanford's Alex Clay 293.70 to 291.83 in the women's 1-meter event.

Despite the victories, the early deficit was unable to be overcome by the Sun Devils as the women fell 176 to 63 and the men were outscored 157-83.

Both teams attempt to rally tomorrow as they travel to California to face their No. 2 men and No. 13 women.
