BEMIDJI, Minn.– Junior goaltender Robert Levin played the best game of his career, making a season-high 42 saves and allowing a season-low two goals, but Sun Devil Hockey was not able to top Bemidji State, falling 2-0.
Both teams skated the first 40 minutes to a 0-0 draw, with neither offense able to beat the other's goalie. The Beavers finally snuck one by Levin at the 5:30 mark, and again at the 8:28 mark. That was all Bemidji State would get, but goalie Michael Bitzer stood tall on the other end, turning away every Sun Devil shot.
ASU had its best opportunity late in the game, when Bemidji State's Ruslan Pedan took a five-minute major penalty for boarding Cody Gylling with 2:39 left in regulation. ASU pulled Levin and played the remainder of the game six-on-four, but was unable to score.
The Sun Devils return to action next week for two exhibition games against ACHA Ohio beginning Friday at Oceanside Ice Arena. Puck drop for both Friday and Saturday are scheduled for 7:30 P.M. MT.
