TEMPE, Ariz. -- After an entire month without competition in December, the Arizona State swimming adn diving teams are ready to get back into the pool against Wyoming on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Mona Plummer Aquatic Complex.
While the Sun Devils did not compete all of December leading up to the winter break, that did not stop the squads from being in the pool -- and outdoors nonetheless.
"Winter training camp was three weeks long of putting our heads down and grinding," said junior Alysha Bush. "We swam, slept, ate and swam some more."
The men and women were in the pool twice a day along with workout regiments set up for muscle buliding each day.
Despite their record entering the midway point, the new year brings a new mindset and a clean slate in the swimmers minds.
"We got a lot closer as a team over the break," Bush said. "Now that we put in the work needed, we are excited to get back to racing and are more competitive than ever."
In the Sun Devils' last meet at the Art Adamson Invitational on Nov. 19-21, the men turned heads with times that ranked amongst the best in the country. They'll look to feed off that success as the season enters the final stretch.
Two swimmers -- one new and one coming off a redshirt designation -- will join the squads for the upcoming meet. Tim Schade transfers from Towson University as a sophomore to help with the distance squad, while freestyle swimmer Heather McCorkel returns from redshirting during the fall.
