TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State senior guard Arnecia Hawkins was named the Ann Meyers Drysdale Women's National Player of the Week for games the week ending Dec. 27, according to an announcement by United States Basketball Writers Association on Tuesday.

As the Pac-12 Conference Player of the Week, Hawkins was nominated for the weekly award, which was chosen by Mel Greenberg, the USBWA coordinator for women’s basketball, from a list of Division I conference players of the week.

Hawkins was recognized for her performance in the Sun Devils’ 68-56 upset of then-No. 10 Florida State on Dec. 21. The local product out of Mesa Mountain View High School scored a career-high 23 points while making all seven of her field goal attempts (including a trio of 3-pointers). Hawkins scored 15 of her 23 points over the last 12:23 of the game, including 13 in the fourth quarter. After the Seminoles cut ASU’s 11-pont lead to five with 6:13 remaining, Hawkins hit a triple to extend ASU’s lead to eight. Her third and final 3-pointer of the game pushed ASU’s lead up to 12 with 4:28 remaining. In addition to her outstanding offensive contributions, Hawkins was also part of a defensive effort that helped hold the Seminoles 19.5 points below their scoring average.

Hawkins’ performance against Florida State was one of several prolific outings she has turned in over the first 12 games of the season. She scored 12 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds vs. VCU on Dec. 5. Against Marquette on Dec. 19, Hawkins, who has averaged 15.2 points and connected on 67.5 percent of her shot attempts in ASU’s last five games, scored a game-high 17 points in the Sun Devils’ 90-80 win. Most recently, Hawkins scored a game-high 18 points in Monday’s 69-46 win over CSUN.

Currently on a six-game winning streak and winners of eight of their last nine games, the No. 17 Sun Devils (9-3) open up Pac-12 play this weekend when they host No. 19 Cal on Saturday (5 p.m. MT) and No. 11 Stanford on Monday (6 p.m. MT).
