TEMPE, Ariz. – Every Sun Devil who saw the court scored, including four in double-digits, as the No. 21 Arizona State women’s basketball team defeated the visiting Marquette Golden Eagles 90-80 on Saturday afternoon.
Elisha Davis scored 11 points and tied a career-high with 11 assists for the Sun Devils (7-3), who have won four straight and six of their last seven games. Arnecia Hawkins led ASU with 17 points and Sophie Brunner scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds in her first game since November 27. Katie Hempen also finished with 14 points and five assists.
“The past three games we have really been shooting the ball the way I know we can,” said ASU head coach Charli Turner Thorne. “And obviously it was great having (Sophie Brunner) back in the lineup.”
ASU shot 58 percent from the floor (11-19) and forced seven turnovers to lead 25-13 after the first quarter and never looked back. The Sun Devils pushed their lead to as many as 21 after a three-pointer from Sabrina Haines gave them a 65-44 lead with 3:03 left in the third quarter.
The Sun Devils finished with 24 assists on 32 made field goals and shot 28-40 (70 percent) on two-point field goals on Saturday.
Allazia Blockton led Marquette (4-6) with 22 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, and Erika Davenport scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.
Up next for the Sun Devils is a matchup against No. 11 Florida State on Monday at 3 p.m. The contest will be a rematch of last season’s NCAA Sweet 16 contest. Monday’s game, which will be nationally televised by ESPNU, will be ASU’s annual Snow Day game.
