TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State swimming and diving squads closed out there back-to-back competitions on Saturday afternoon, with the women falling to UCLA 180-116 and the men not able to rally against Air Force in a 158-142 loss.
The Sun Devils entered Saturday's meet hoping to bounce back with victories after losses by the men and women to USC on Friday.
Despite not earning a win over the two days, head coach Bob Bowman liked what he saw as far as competitiveness and energy throughout the two meets.
While the ASU men won nine of the 16 events -- one of those being a victory by sophomore diver David Hoffer -- they still came up short in the long run.
Sophomore Patrick Park and junior Tadas Duskinas had phenomenal days in the pool for the Devils, each earning two victories individually and one as back-to-back swimmers in the men's 400-yard freestyle relay.
Park picked up victories in the 200-yard butterfly -- with another "B Standard" qualifying time of 1:47.68 -- and the 100-yard freestyle of 44.63. Duskinas earned a win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.68 and cruised to a "B Standard" qualifying time of 47.46 for nearly a two-second victory. The two's race in the 400-yard freestyle relay with teammates Barkley Perry and Thomaz Martins was a nail-biter, with the men clinching the victory by .07 seconds.
Park, Duskinas, Perry & Martins hold off Air Force on last race of the day! #NailBiter #ForksUp

On the women's side, three different swimmers and diver Mara Aiacoboae were the only Sun Devils to earn wins over the Bruins.
Junior Kat Simonovic has been hungry for a victory in the women's 200-yard freestyle after getting second in the last two meets. She got the monkey off her back, getting her third victory of the season in the event with a time of 1:50.67.
Freshman Kaya Philapil picked up the first win of her college career with a time of 1:04.62 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
After a second-place finish on Friday against USC, senior Jennifer Morgan got back to her winning ways, swimming to a first-place time of 2:02.47.
Morgan takes 1st for #ASU in the 200yd backstroke!
