TEMPE, Ariz. (Day 3) - Senior Desirae Krawczyk became the first Sun Devil to win the ASU Thunderbird Invitational since Kelcy McKenna in 2010, as she defeated Michigan's Kate Fahey 6-2, 6-4.
The victory gave Krawczyk victories in straight sets throughout her five matches of the tournament.
"Overall I feel I played really well in the tournament," Krawczyk said. "There were times where I didn't feel as great but I'm just happy to finish the senior fall season with a bang. Sheila had been working with me more as the tournament was coming and so I put more work into it and it payed off."

Ironically, during Krawczyk's freshman year she made the finals of the Thunderbird Invite and played against Ronit Yurovsky of Michigan.
"She said yesterday this was kind of deja vu playing a Michigan girl in the finals again," head coach Sheila McInerney said of Krawczyk. "For her to come out on top was great. It was high quality tennis and I thought she really played well. So good for her and good for the team."
As far as Krawczyk's actual play, she was happy to see her bounce back to finish her fall season strong after a tough stretch the last two tournaments.
"Des played really, really well for being up 6-2, 2-0," McInerney said. "It was really high level tennis. Kate Fahey is a really good player -- one of the top freshman in the country who has had a very good fall. Des faultered there for a few games, but to her credit, she bounced back really well being down 4-2 and winning four-straight games. Kudos to her."
The final several matches did get rained out, as scattered showers began to fall around 11:30 a.m. Other than the final day, the weather provided a great atmosphere as always for the teams.
"I thought overall it was a great tournament," McInerney said. "Every year hte same teams like to come back because we have good weather and a good field. You play just enough tennis but not too much.
"I thought our kids played really well. We had a lot of singles wins which was really helpful -- helps the confidence going into the offseason. We expect to play well at home and we did. "
The Sun Devils now enjoy a small offseason in between the fall and spring. They begin their 2016 campaign on Friday, Jan. 15 as they split between the Freeman Memorial Invite in Las Vegas, Nev. and the Palm Springs Invite in Palm Springs, Calif.
