LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Arizona State senior Desirae Krawczyk -- ranked No. 26 by ITA tennis -- was upset in the second round of qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Krawcyzk entered the qualifying round of 64 as the No. 4 seed, but would be eliminated by Georgia's Silvia Garcia 6-3, 6-2.
"Obviously it's the first tournament of the season for Desirae and her first chance to get some matches in competition format," said assistant coach Matt Langley. "It was the first in a while for her and you could see there were some nerves there early on.
"The second match was quite different from the first. Her opponent had a different game style and it appeared Desirae had some difficulty adjusting."
She started the tournament on the right foot, beating Arkansas' Shannon Hudson 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in the first match of the day.

The All-American Championships features the best collegiate players from across the country, and as head coach Sheila McInerney said before the tournament, it provides a great measuring stick for Krawczyk entering her senior season.
While she may have been eliminated from the singles bracket, Krawczyk welcomes her doubles partner -- fellow senior Stephanie Vlad -- for play starting on Thursday, Oct. 8. The pair is ranked No. 6 in the country together.
"For doubles, the biggest thing is having great energy and chemistry together on the court," Langley said. "Being positive from the first ball and through the match will be key. They will need to take their opportunities when they get them."
Vlad and Krawczyk do not have to play in qualifying, as they earn an automatic bid to the final bracket.
