TEMPE, Ariz – Three Arizona State University women’s soccer players – senior forward Cali Farquharson, junior defender Mckenzie Grossman and sophomore forward Jessica Raybe – earned Academic All-District™ honors, according to an announcement by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Farquharson (3.54 GPA in Biological Sciences) earned first-team recognition and now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected next month. Earlier this week Farquharson was named one of 10 finalists for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award® in women’s collegiate soccer. One of the most accomplished players in the history of the program, Farquharson is currently tied for 14th among active NCAA Division I players with 41 career goals and is tied for 16th in career points (96). She is second on ASU’s all-time list in both of the aforementioned categories and is also tied for second in career game winning goals (13). This season Farquharson leads the team in goals (7 – second in the Pac-12) and points (18 – 4th in the Pac-12) despite missing 4.5 games due to injury and is second in the Pac-12 in both goals per game (0.58) and points per game (1.50).
Grossman (3.40 GPA in Exercise and Wellness) earned second-team honors. This season Grossman has started all but one game at center back for the Sun Devils and has logged the most minutes of ASU’s field players. Grossman’s play has been a major factor in enabling the Sun Devils to post six shutouts this season. ASU has allowed one or zero goals in 10 of its 16 games this season.
Raybe (3.80 GPA in Exercise and Wellness) was one of the key contributors during the Devils’ recent unbeaten streak (3-0-1). Raybe scored a goal in three of ASU's four games during the streak. She recently scored a goal for the Sun Devils in three straight games – at UCLA (Oct. 11), at Washington (Oct. 15) and vs. Oregon State (Oct. 23). Raybe was also responsible for setting up the penalty kick that teammate Whitney Kanavel scored on in ASU’s 2-1, double-overtime upset win at No. 18 Washington on Oct. 15.
