TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State men and women's swim and dive team will compete together for the first time in the 2015-16 season against UNLV on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m.
The swim squads split up for the first weekend on Saturday, Oct. 3, with the women getting a win in Corvallis, Ore. against Oregon State and the men sealing a victory over University of the Pacific. It was the first time since 2006 that both Sun Devil teams earned victories on opening weekend.
This will be diving's first event of the season under eight-time Pac-10/12 diving head coach of the year Mark Bradshaw.
On Thursday, the women's team hosted the first meet at home for Sun Devil swimming against Washington State. While they fell to the Cougars 115-90 on a very rare night event, the women won six of the 11 events.
Junior Alysha Bush has been very impressive in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, winning each event she's participated in thus far this season through two meets.
Fellow junior Kat Simonovic can barely catch her breath, as she continues to compete in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard inndividual medley and 400- or 800-yard freestyle relay. On Thursday, she jumped out of hte pool from the 200-yard freestyle and right back in minutes later for the 200 IM.
A win by both squads on Saturday would be the start to a first, as ASU has only won two dual meets in Tempe in the last four yeras -- one time in 2014-15 and once in 2012-13. Both were against Brigham Young.
For the men, junior Barkley Perry has wins in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke.
Fellow junior Tadas Duskinas has also tallied wins in the 100-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle.
