Women's Swimming Hosts First Meet of Season

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's swim team welcomes their first opponent of the 2015-16 season to the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m.

The unranked Sun Devils take on No. 30 Washington State in their second Pac-12 match-up in as many meets. "I'd like to see them improve on their performance in Corvallis and to continue taking those next steps," head coach Bob Bowman said. "We'd like to see them transfer the things we've been working on in practice into the pool in competition." Sun Devil swimming is coming off a historical first meet nearly three weeks ago, when both the men and women won on opening weekend for the first time in nearly 10 years. The women traveled to Corvallis, Ore. for a meeting with Oregon State, and pulled off a 109-94 victory in 11 events. The Sun Devils won four of the first six events, and six of the 11.  Junior Alysha Bush took first in both of her events -- the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle -- turning in times of 23.38 and 50.82, respectively. Senior Jennifer Morgan and junior Katarina Simonovic also tallied a victory each along with a second-place finish to help the Devils.  As for the Cougars (0-2), they've already competed in two meets -- one with Stanford and one with California -- since the end of September.  Washington State junior Addisynn Bursch -- who took second in the 200-yard freestyle against Cal -- may provide some competition for Simonovic, who's times are .02 apart. Bursch also competes in the 100-yard freestyle where her recent time was 51.49, compared to Bush's of 50.82. In the 200-yard breaststroke, WSU senior Presley Wetterstrom missed the NCAA "B" standard time by .54 seconds.  Last year, the women fell to the Cougars in a 14-event meet 155.5 to 106.5.
