DANBURY, Conn– After two games allowing five goals, Arizona State needed a strong defensive outing Saturday against Sacred Heart. ASU got it, but the offense was unable to break through the Pioneers defense and the Sun Devils completed the road trip with a 3-0 defeat.

For the second time in three games, freshman Ryland Pashovitz started in net and played well. He did not allow an even-strength goal – Sacred Heart scored twice on the power play and once with an empty net and made 22 saves. The defense in front of him played its best game of the trip, allowing only 26 shots and making eight blocks. The shots allowed were the lowest of the season.

ASU did not allow a goal in either the first or second period, the first time all season it entered the third period with a shutout. Sacred Heart untied the game at the 2:45 mark of the third and added the dagger at 14:59.

The Sun Devils return home Friday and Saturday for a home set against Southern New Hampshire. Both of the games will be played at Oceanside Ice Arena and are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT.
