TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State swim team prepared for their 2015-16 campaign under new head coach Bob Bowman with a maroon and gold intrasquad meet at Mona Plummer Aquatic Complex on Friday afternoon.
Assistant coaches Misty Hyman and Ryan Mallam split up the women and men's teams to compete in 23 events.
The women's maroon team defeated the gold, 90-78, while the men's gold team just held off maroon, 99-96.

It just so happened that the men's 400-yard medley relay would decide their meet, as maroon was trailing gold 83 to 95. Maroon had two teams swimming in the relay to the one for gold. A first and second finish by maroon would provide a 98 to 97 victory.
The "A" team of Richard Brohus, Barkley Perry, Andrew Porter and Keiser Witte just clinched the first place finish with a time of 3:02.19. The gold team of Patrick Park, Tadas Duskinas, Reid Elliott and Thomaz Martins were nipping at their heels, just missing a first-place finish with a time of 3:02.41.
Maroon's victory earned them 11 points, but gold finishing in second allowed them to earn four points that would clinch the victory.
Redshirt senior Thibaut Capitaine was the only swimmer that met a NCAA qualifying standard, turning in a :55.23 in the men's 100-yard breaststroke to just beat the B standard of :55.39.
Several Devils recorded impressive times for the first competitive meet of the season, and coach Bowman said that was the purpose of the meet -- to see what that competitiveness would bring out of his athletes.

The women's team will travel to Corvallis, Ore. this Saturday while the men make their way west to the University of the Pacific that same day, as each compete in their first official meets of the season.
