TEMPE, Ariz. – Trevor Williams, a pitcher for the Sun Devil Baseball program from 2011-13, is participating in this year’s Arizona Fall League, which begins Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Forty-six Sun Devils for Life have been selected to play in the Arizona Fall League since it was founded in 1992, including 23 who have advanced to play in the Major Leagues. Notable alums include Willie Bloomquist, Ike Davis, Andre Ethier, Jason Kipnis, Mike Leake, Paul Lo Duca and Dustin Pedroia.
Williams has gone 7-9 in the minors this season, including 7-8 with a 4.00 ERA in 21 starts for the Jacksonville Suns, the Double-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. He was promoted to the New Orleans Zephyrs, the team’s Triple-A affiliate, on Aug. 23 and is set to make his third start for the team on Sept. 3.
Williams put together a 3.00 career ERA at Arizona State, which is tied for the sixth lowest in school history in the aluminum bat era. He went 19-8 in his three-year career, including a nation-best 12-2 his sophomore season that netted him First Team All-Pac-12 honors as well as second team All-America recognition. A two-time All-Conference honoree, he was named a Freshmen All-American and Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 recipient after appearing in a team-high 32 games in 2011. He was selected 44th overall by the Marlins in the second round of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
