TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State women’s golfer Noemi Jimenez was named the 2015 Edith Cummings Munson Golf Award, the Women’s Golf Coaches Association announced today.

The Edith Cummings Munson Award recognizes an upperclassmen student-athlete and a WGCA All-American that has the highest cumulative GPA.

Jimenez, the 2015 Pac-12 Senior Scholar Athlete, graduated from Arizona State with a 3.80 GPA in an Interdisciplinary Studies major with concentrations in Business and Tourism Development & Management.

“This is a tremendous honor for Noemi and showcases that she excelled both on the course and in the classroom,” said women’s golf head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. “Noemi is the epitome of an outstanding Sun Devil in every way and is most deserving of this award. The Edith Cummings Munson award is the most prestigious academic honor in collegiate women’s golf, and the award is a testament to all the hard work and discipline Noemi has shown in her four years here at Arizona State.”

Jimenez finished her last season with the Sun Devils recording four top-10 finishes, including a fifth place finishes at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, and the 2015 Clover Cup. The two-time All-American was also Pac-12 All-Academic first team every year she has been eligible. Jimenez was named to the Dean’s List six times in her career

The Arizona State women’s golf team leads the nation with the most Edith Cummings Munson Golf Award recipients since 1989 with four student-athletes winning the award five times.

In 2008 and 2009, Azahara Munoz became the first back-to-back winner of the top academic honor in collegiate women’s golf with Juliana Murcia winning the award in 2010 to make an ASU three-peat. Heather Bowie first won the award for Arizona State in 1995.

With her achievement a donation of  $5,000 is given from the Curtis & Edith Cummings Munson Foundation to the general scholarship fund of the recipient’s institution.
