Arizona State University women’s basketball junior forward Sophie Brunner will attempt to become the second Sun Devil women's basketball player in as many weeks to earn a gold medal when the U.S. Pan American Women’s Basketball Team takes on Canada in Monday’s championship game of the 2015 Pan American Games at Ryerson Athletic Center in Toronto, Canada.

The USA earned the right to play in Monday’s gold-medal game after overcoming a 14-point, third-quarter deficit in an eventual down-to-the-wire, 65-64 win over Cuba in Sunday’s first semifinal matchup. Canada knocked off Brazil, 91-63 in the other semifinal.

Monday’s gold-medal game (8:45 p.m. ET/5:45 p.m. PT) will be included in ESPNU’s whip-around coverage of the Pan American Games. The game can be seen in its entirety on ESPN3.

Brunner has played in three contests during the Pan American Games. She is currently third on the team with six offensive rebounds. She scored six points, pulled down six rebounds and had three assists in the USA’s win over the Dominican Republic on Friday.

Brunner is the third current Sun Devil to compete in an international event this summer. Earlier this month senior guard Katie Hempen and junior center Quinn Dornstauder competed for the USA and Canada, respectively, at the World University Games in South Korea. Each of their respective squads faced off in the championship game with the USA prevailing 82-63 last Monday. Hempen (gold) and Dornstauder (silver) both earned medals.
