TEMPE, Ariz. – Thirteen contests against teams that qualified for last year’s NCAA Tournament and 10 games televised by Pac-12 Networks highlight the 2015 Arizona State University soccer schedule announced by ninth-year head coach Kevin Boyd on Wednesday.
Below are notes on ASU’s 2015 regular season schedule comprised of 19 regular season contests and two exhibition games:
- The Sun Devils will play 10 games at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium (includes exhibition game vs. Beijing Normal University on Sun., Aug., 23) and 11 games away from home (includes exhibition game vs. Northern Arizona in Prescott on Aug. 14). Two of those games will be contested at a neutral site when ASU faces Pepperdine (Sept. 11) and Texas Tech (Sept. 13) at the Cats Classic in Tucson.
- The following ASU games will be televised by Pac-12 Networks, which will carry a total of 69 live women’s soccer games in 2015:
- Exhibition game vs. Beijing Normal University (Sun., Aug. 23 at 1 p.m. PT).
- Both of ASU’s games at the University of Arizona’s tournament – vs. Pepperdine (Fri., Sept. 11 at 4:30 p.m. PT) and vs. Texas Tech (Sun., Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. PT).
- Pac-12 opener vs. Washington State (Sun., Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. PT).
- Both of ASU’s Pac-12 games on its road trip to Los Angeles – at USC (Fri., Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. PT) and at UCLA (Sun., Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. PT).
- At Washington (Thurs., Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. PT).
- Final regular season home game vs. Oregon (Sun., Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. PT).
- At Colorado (Sun., Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. MT).
- At Arizona in annual Territorial Cup Series contest (Fri., Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. MT).
- ASU will face 13 teams that made it to the NCAA Tournament last year, including five schools that were among the final 16: Stanford (NCAA National Semifinals), UCLA (NCAA Fourth Round), Pepperdine (NCAA Third Round), Texas Tech (NCAA Third Round) and Washington (NCAA Third Round). ASU will face Pepperdine (Sept. 11) and Texas Tech (Sept. 13) in back-to-back games at the University of Arizona’s tournament. ASU will also compete against 2014 NCAA Tournament participants Cal, Colorado and Arizona (all three teams made it to the second round of the tournament) and San Diego State, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Washington State, USC.
- Of ASU’s 19 regular season opponents, 15 had winning records last season and two others were at .500.
- ASU officially opens the regular season on Fri., Aug. 21 when it hosts Portland State at 7 p.m., in what will be the first of five consecutive home dates. Two days later (Sun., Aug. 23 at 1 p.m.) the Sun Devils will host an exhibition game vs. Beijing Normal University before resuming regular season action the following Friday (Aug. 28 at 7 p.m.) at home against UNLV. ASU will then close out the three-week homestand when it hosts the Sun Devil Desert Classic – vs. Stephen F. Austin (Fri., Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.) and vs. San Diego State (Sun., Sept. 6 at 1:30 p.m.). The University of Arizona will also be in town to meet San Diego State (Friday at 4:30 p.m.) and Stephen F. Austin (Sunday at 11 a.m.).
- ASU’s only official road games in non-conference play take place the fifth week of the season when it travels to the state of Oklahoma to face Oklahoma State (Fri., Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. CT) and Oklahoma (Sun., Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. CT).
- ASU will open Pac-12 play with three straight home games – vs. Washington State, Stanford and Cal – and will end the season with three consecutive road games – at Utah, at Colorado and at Arizona.
