TEMPE, Ariz.—The Arizona State sand volleyball team (4-9) lost to Arizona, 4-1, on Friday at the PERA Club as part of the ASU Sand Volleyball Challenge Hosted By Red Lion Inn and Suites.
“We’re certainly disappointed with the result, but I felt like we competed well,” head coach Jason Watson said. “Whitney (Follette) and Halle (Harker) put a good one together, and as I’ve said, we’re this work in progress and I feel like we’re establishing some good routines and getting better each match. It’s hard to see tonight, but I definitely feel like we’re getting better.”
Paired up at No. 4, the duo of junior Whitney Follette and freshman Halle Harked picked up a win for the Sun Devils, defeating the Wildcat pair of Cook and Arizobal, 21-19, 21-19.
With the win, the Wildcats earn half of a point as part of the 2014-15 Territorial Cup Series.
Prior to the match between the Sun Devils and Wildcats, CSU Bakersfield edged New Mexico, 3-2.
On Saturday, ASU will take on New Mexico at Noon PT, and round out the weekend against CSU Bakersfield at 5 p.m. PT. The Wildcats and Roadrunners will meet at 10 a.m. PT, and Arizona will take on New Mexico at 3 p.m. PT.
