Spring Break. Las Vegas. March Madness.

All of these components add up to what should be an unforgettable and exciting weekend for the 942 Crew, which left for the Entertainment Capital of the World on Tuesday morning to cheer on their Sun Devils in the annual Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament.

However being ready and rested to cheer their team on to victory was not the primary motivation for getting to Vegas a day before the games begin. Just like the student-athletes and staff who make up Sun Devil Athletics, the motto, 'Sun Devils Serve,' is never too far from the minds of the university's most spirited supporters. This was the case on Tuesday as the entire busload of 942 Crew members helped make it a special day for a local agency dedicated to giving back.

For 90 minutes the crew took part in a special service project as it stopped by a local homeless shelter to lend a helping hand. The student group was split up into two sections. One group applied a fresh coat of paint to the interior of one of the buildings within the facility while the other used good-old-fashioned elbow grease to clean up outside the shelter's living areas.

According to ASU associate athletics director Bill Kennedy, who helped organize the event, giving back to local communities is just as important to the students as doing all they can to help the team win on game day.

"This was a tremendous opportunity for the students of the 942 Crew to do something meaningful for the Las Vegas community," Kennedy said. "They really enjoyed giving back to the city that is doing such a wonderful job hosting the Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament."
