TEMPE – The No. 6 Arizona State University water polo split a pair of games on the final day of the UCI Invitational, dropping a tough 6-5 decision to No. 7 Hawai’i before defeating No. 9 CSU Northridge, 9-7, in the seventh place game.
Petra Pardi and Izabella Chiappini each had four goals on the day to lead the team while Mia Rycraw had 20 combined saves over the two games.

No. 6 ASU 9, No. 9 CSU Northridge 7
Izabella Chiappini found her scoring touch, earning her first hat trick of the weekend to lead the Sun Devils to a 9-7 victory over No. 9 CSU Northridge in the seventh-place game on Sunday afternoon. She also had a team-leading two steals in the contest as well.
The Sun Devils jumped out to a 6-3 halftime lead, giving them enough cushion to hold off the Matadors and improve to 11-3 on the season.
Alkistis Benekou and Petra Pardi each had two goals each while Lena Mihailovic and Abbey Kerth also got on the score card. Mihailovic also led the team with two assists.
Mia Rycraw had seven saves in the game, including two in crucial five on six situations.
It was the third time that ASU has defeated CSUN this season, playing the Matadors and winning in each of the three tournaments it has competed in this season.

The Sun Devils struggled to find offense for a second consecutive game, scoring just two total goals in the second half after taking a 3-1 halftime lead to fall to No. 7 Hawai’I, 7-6, on Sunday morning.
Petra Pardi had two goals in the game while Mia Rycraw did her part with 13 saves but the efforts were not enough for the Sun Devils, who fell to 10-3 on the season.
Izabella Chiappini, Katie Sverchek, Alkistis Benekou all had goals in the contest.
