TUCSON, Ariz. -- Besting its previous season high mark by almost a full point, the Arizona State women's gymnastics team hit 24 of 24 routines to score a season high 195.375 in the Territorial Cup Series meet against the University of Arizona. Hitting season bests and personal bests the Gym Devils fell short of defeating the Wildcats 196.625-195.375.
ASU opened the meet on bars, where they finished with a 49.000, the first time the Gym Devils reached the 49-point mark since the season opener against Southern Utah. Junior Stephanie Miceli was the first Sun Devil to compete, and scored a 9.775. Junior Allie Salas and senior Brianna Gades followed and both received scores of 9.775. Junior Carissa Kraus was the team’s highest scoring gymnast, with 9.850, followed by Taylor Allex with 9.825. The Sun Devils trailed the Wildcats by just 0.025 at the end of the first rotation.
On vault ASU finished the rotation with 48.650 points, junior-transfer Taylor Allex lead the Sun Devils with a score of 9.850. Carissa Kraus made her season debut on vault, and scored a 9.650. Stephanie Miceli started at 9.8, and achieved a score of 9.625. Senior Natasha Sundby scored a 9.825, and sophomore Beka Conrad had a score of 9.550 to finish of the Gym Devils off. The Sun Devils had a score of 97.650 for the first two events, while Arizona had a score of 98.325.
Taylor Allex and Natasha Sundby were the highest scoring Gym Devils on floor and both received scores of 9.850. Allie Sallas tied her season-high score of 9.825, and Stephanie Miceli scored a 9.7. Sophomore Savannah Borman finished the Gym Devils off with a score of 9.575, and ASU headed into the fourth and final rotation, with a total score of 146.450, behind Arizona’s 147.500.
Beka Conrad started ASU off in the Gym Devils final rotation, and received a season-high score of 9.775 for her performance on beam. Following Conrad, Savannah Borman also received a season-high score of 9.700. Brianna Gades tied her career-high score of 9.875 to win the event title for ASU, and Taylor Allex followed with a score of 9.775. Stephanie Miceli had a score of 9.750, and Allie Salas finished the Gym Devils off with career-high a score of 9.750. ASU finished the fourth rotation with an event total of 48.925, and a season-high final score of 195.375.
Arizona won the Territorial Cup Series point in gymnastics but the Sun Devils still lead the Wildcats 4.5-3.5.
