Palos Verdes, Calif.—The Arizona State women’s golf team finished in seventh place at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge Tuesday afternoon. Through 54 holes, the Sun Devils shot a 36-over 888 (285-299-304) at the par-71, 6,017-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club.
After leading the field through 36 holes, No. 39 Baylor held on for the win. The Bears posted an 11-over 863, setting a tournament record and finishing four strokes ahead of second-place No. 6 Southern California. Thirteen strokes separated the Trojans from the rest of the pack. No. 14 Arizona placed third, while No. 15 Oklahoma State and No. 3 UCLA tied for fourth and first-ranked Washington took sixth (Golfweek).
On the individual side, the Bruins’ Bronte Law claimed the top spot with a 5-under 208. Beginning Tuesday’s round tied for first with Baylor’s Hayley Davis, Law carded an even-par 71 for the win.
Arizona State’s Monica Vaughn tied for fourth with Baylor’s Dylan Kim. The sophomore posted a 1-over 214 (69-71-74) through three rounds, recording her second top-10 finish of the season.
Seniors Emilie Alonso and Noemi Jimenez improved their second round scores Tuesday, each carding a 5-over 76. Alonso tied for 38th with a 13-over 226 (72-78-76), while Jimenez tied for 44th with teammate Roberta Liti at 14-over 227.
Next up, the Sun Devils head to South Carolina for the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, hosted by the Game Cocks. The tournament, Mar. 6-8, will be played at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
