BERKELEY, Calif.—While lack of depth on certain events has been an on-going issue for the Gym Devils, the Arizona State women’s gymnastics team showed the resiliency and stick-to-it-ness of a veteran-caliber squad on Sunday in a quad meet against California, Denver and San Jose State. The Sun Devils finished fourth with a team score of 192.

Competing only five athletes on both vault and floor left little room for error, the team veterans did not succumb to the pressure. On floor, juniors Allie Salas and Taylor Allex each scored a 9.825 and senior Natasha Sundby hit 9.900 for the second time this season.

On vault, Allex hit the top score for the Sun Devils with a score of 9.800. Sundby and Salas followed the junior transfer with scores a 9.775 and 9.700, respectively. Arizona State competed layouts for the final two vaults with a couple of their top vault specialists out with lower-leg injuries. 

The Sun Devils started the meet on bars with hit routines from five of the six gymnasts. ASU’s top bar worker Carissa Kraus led the team on the event with a score of 9.750. Entering the meet the Gym Devils were ranked 10th in the nation in the event.

On beam, Arizona State fought for every point on beam with all six gymnasts hitting routines. Individually junior Taylor Allex led the Gym Devils with a score of 9.775 on beam, with contributions from senior Brianna Gades and Stephanie Miceli of 9.750 and 9.700, respectively.

Next up, the Gym Devils return to Wells Fargo Arena to face the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. for Club Team Night. ASU will also sign autographs for fans following the meet. Club teams interested in participating please call 480-727-0000 or visit the gymnastics ticket page
