LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Arizona State women’s gymnastics team competed in its first tri-meet of the season facing No. 13, University of Kentucky and No. 2 LSU at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington.

LSU took first place at the meet, scoring 196.6 points, followed by Kentucky with 195.600, and ASU with 194.400.

“I’m really pleased with our overall performance. We fought really hard and I’m glad that one of our falls was not counted,” said head coach Rene Lyst. “We made quite a few small mistakes that we need to improve upon, but overall it was a solid performance.”

The Sun Devils began their first rotation on beam, scoring 48.175 points. Junior, Stephanie Miceli was the team’s highest scorer in the event with 9.800. ASU had a total of six gymnasts in the lineup and did not have to count a fall.

After the first rotation, LSU lead the meet with 49.075 points, followed by Kentucky with 48.950. Heading into the second rotation ASU trailed Kentucky by 0.775 points.

The team scored 48.825 on floor in their second rotation, and Allie Sallas and Taylor Allex lead the team with scores of 9.825 in the event. The Sun Devils remained in third place heading into the third rotation with a score of 97.000, behind LSU’s 98.050 and Kentucky’s 98.100.

On vault, the Sun Devils scored a total 48.525, Tasha Sundly and Taylor Allex lead the team in the event, both receiving scores of 9.850. After the third rotation the team had a score total of 145.525, while Kentucky had 146.925 and LSU had 147.350.

ASU had its strongest performance in the final rotation of the meet scoring 48.875 on bars, and junior Allie Salas had the highest scoring performance with a 9.850.

Juniors Allie Salas and Stephanie Miceli were the team’s two all arounders, scoring 39.050 and 38.750, and finished third and fourth overall, respectively.

Next up, the Gym Devils travel to Berkeley, Calif. to take on Cal, San Jose State, and Denver on Sunday, Jan. 25th at 3 p.m. MT.
