Berkeley, Calif.—The Arizona State women’s tennis team wrapped up its first tournament of the 2014-15 season at the Cal Nike Fall Invitational on Sunday.  Junior Ebony Panoho and sophomore Kassidy Jump advanced to the semifinals of the blue singles flight and blue singles consolation bracket, respectively.

“Overall I felt we had a very good weekend as we played a lot of quality tennis, competed well, and came away in good health,” said ASU head coach Sheila McInerney.  “The first tournament is always a bit tricky as you jump back into competition head-first playing seven matches in three days.  It was really good for us and we definitely got better as the weekend progressed.”

Eighth-seeded Jump won the blue singles consolation finals, defeating San Jose State’s Marie Klocker.  Jump advanced to the finals after downing Fresno State’s Rana Sherif Ahmed in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, in the semis.

In the blue singles semifinals, Ebony Panoho faced third-seeded Maegan Manasse of Cal, who went on to capture the top singles title.  Panoho lost in straight sets, 1-6, 1-6.

“Ebony did not play her best tennis Sunday, but she certainly had a good showing this weekend,” added McInerney.  “I felt everyone had some positive moments, and we will benefit from this tournament.”

Next up, the Sun Devils head to Nashville, Tenn. for the June Stewart Invitational, hosted by Vanderbilt.  The tournament takes place Oct. 10-12 at Vanderbilt’s Currey Tennis Center.
