SEATTLE, Wash. – The Arizona State women’s tennis (11-2, 1-0 Pac-12) team made a statement in its first Pac-12 Conference match-up of the 2014 season by defeating Washington on the road, 6-1, Friday in Seattle, Wash.

After dropping the doubles point to start the day, the Sun Devils went on the sweep the singles matches to give ASU six-straight points for the victory. Freshman Gussie Sullivan sealed the victory for Arizona State after forcing UW’s Riko Shimizu into three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.

As commanding as a 6-1 victory appears, three Sun Devil singles matches were extended into extra sets. In addition to Panoho, junior Leighann Sahagun and freshman Alexandra Osborne were also able to clinch victories in the third set.

The doubles team of Desirae Krawczyk and Kassidy Jump handily won their match, 8-1, to open up the meet. However losses in the first position and third position earned Washington the double’s point.

The Sun Devils return to Whiteman Tennis Center next week to host Yale on Thurs., March 13 in a midweek match-up and BYU on Sat., March 15.
