AUSTIN, Texas -- The Arizona State men's swimming and diving team capped off its season Saturday at the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships from the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas. Riley McCormick netted all 28 final points for the Sun Devils, earning ASU a 23rd place finish out of 48 schools.
Alex Coci was the lone Arizona State competitor on Saturday. Swimming in the event he took first-place in at Pac-12 Championships, the 200 fly, Coci finished 9th in the preliminary with a time of 1:43.11, just .02 of a second behind 7th place and an a position in the A final. His fastest swim of the season in the 200 fly was when he swam a time of 1:42.97, and only six swimmers in the A final obtained a faster time than this.
Swimming in the B final event later in the evening, Coci received a misfortune and got disqualified, meaning he failed to record a final time in the last event of his college career, thus leaving ASU's final tally at the 2014 NCAA Championships at 28.
For ASU, McCormick notched an 8th place finish on Thursday on the 1-meter dive on his way to being named an All-American for the third time, and just missed out on an NCAA title in the 3-meter on Friday thanks to a 2nd place finish.
Luke Clohessy was the third Sun Devil to make it to NCAA Championships, but the freshman never competed in a final dive.
The Cal Bears took 1st place overall with 468.5 total points and was one of four Pac-12 schools to finish in the top ten.
