NORMAN, Okla.--The No. 13 Arizona State women's golf team is tied for seventh place with four teams after the first round of the NCAA Central Regional, hosted by Oklahoma, at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. The Sun Devils shot 4-over in the first round for a team total of 292 on the day.
Sophomore Noemi Jimenez, who holds the lowest scoring average for the Sun Devils, led ASU in the first round shooting a 2-under 70 on Thursday to tie for ninth. Jimenez was able to overcome a double bogey on hole 12, her third hole of the day, and record five birdies total in the round. Fellow sophomore Emilie Alonso also played solidly, finishing round one in a tie for 13th at 1-under.
The second round of the NCAA Central Regional continues tomorrow at the par-72, 6,298-yard Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
The top eight teams in the region and the top-two individuals from non-advancing teams will move on to the 2013 NCAA Champions in Athens, Ga. hosted by the University of Georgia, May 21-24. Arizona State has finished in sixth place or better in eight of the nine tournaments the team has competed this season.

Arizona State holds the record for most consecutive NCAA Championship appearances with 21 straight. The Sun Devils also lead the nation in NCAA Championships with seven and NCAA individual titles with five. ASU has won a total of nine individual titles counting victories prior to the incorporation of women's sports into the NCAA.
