Mark Smith, the younger brother of head coach Lee Roy Smith, will serve as a volunteer assistant coach with Arizona State wrestling this season.

Smith begins his coaching career following a prolific collegiate campaign at Oklahoma State, where he wrestled from 1995-99. As a Cowboy, Smith was a three-time All-American and won three straight Big-12 Conference championship titles under coach and older brother John Smith. He began his OSU career as the only true freshman starter on the squad yet was plagued by injuries all season. After using a medical redshirt the following year, Smith came into his own, amassing an impressive 79-10 record and posting three top-five finishes at the NCAA Championships from his sophomore through senior seasons.

But Smith was no stranger to success when he arrived at OSU. At Del City High School in Del City, Okla., he was a three-time state champion and a two-time Junior National Freestyle champion. Smith was also selected as Oklahoma's High School Wrestler of the Century by the Daily Oklahoman.

Smith has recently moved to the Valley and is resuming his freestyle wrestling career with the Sunkist Kids Olympic Club.
