TEMPE, Ariz.—The 14th-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team finished in a tie for fifth place at its home PING/ASU Invitational held at the ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. The Sun Devils shot a three-day total of 1-under 863 (291-281-291) to tie with top-ranked USC.
The University of Alabama took home the 2013 team title with a new PING/ASU tournament record 19-under 845 (284-284-277), besting the previous record set by Arizona State in 2007 of -13 under. Bama freshman Emma Tally won the individual title shooting 9-under 207 (68-69-70).
Juniors Laura Blanco and Daniela Ordonez tied for 10th place individually, each shooting a three-day total of 3-under 213. Sophomore Noemi Jimenez shot a 2-over 218 to tie for 27th.
The PING/ASU is always a challenging field, especially this season, with 11 of the 17 teams ranked in the top-25 in the nation according to Golfstat. Next up, the Sun Devils head to the Pac-12 Championships, Apr. 22-24, in Valencia, Calif. The Pac-12 Championships also determines the Territorial Cup point with the University of Arizona.
