TEMPE, Ariz. - The 19th-ranked Arizona State University baseball team won game one of Saturday's doubleheader against Long Beach State, 4-0, at Packard Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

Starting right-hander Trevor Williams (3-0) scattered three hits and one walk across nine innings as he recorded his second consecutive complete game and third career complete- game shutout. He tallied five strikeouts and allowed just three base runners over the final six innings.

Second baseman James McDonald went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI double as the Sun Devils (8-2-1) tallied five extra-base hits in the game.

ASU took the lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by McDonald that scored shortstop Drew Stankiewicz, who reached on an error by the LBSU shortstop.

Williams loaded the bases in the top of the third inning after he conceded a leadoff double and hit two batters, but he induced a double play with one out to keep the Dirtbags off the scoreboard.

McDonald extended the Devils' advantage to two runs with a solo homer over the right-field wall in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Consecutive triples to start the seventh frame by third baseman Michael Benjamin and left fielder Jake Peevyhouse, along with an RBI sacrifice fly by David Graybill, put two runs on the board and gave ASU a 4-0 lead.

LBSU starter Shane Carle (1-2) lost his second game of the season as he allowed four runs, including three earned, on six hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings.
