HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The 17th-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team is tied for fifth after the first round of the Darius Rucker Invitational, hosted by South Carolina, Friday, in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The Sun Devils shot a 13-over 297 in the first round, just four shots back from day-one leader Alabama.
Sophomore Noemi Jimenez leads the Sun Devils after round one. The sophomore, who won her first career individual title last week at the Cal Classic, shot a 1-over 72 to tie for fifth place individually. Junior Daniela Ordonez is tied for eighth on the day, shooting a 2-over 73 in the round.
Arizona State, North Carolina and Vanderbilt are the only teams to have two players in the top-10 after the first round of competition.
The second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate continues tomorrow at the par-71, 6211-yard Long Cove Golf Club.
On the day before competition the teams were treated to a private concert by tournament namesake and Hootie and the Blowfish front man Darius Rucker, adding an extra element of fun to the three-day tournament.
