TEMPE – The Arizona State University wrestling team has been eliminated from competition at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, following losses from the three remaining competitors on Friday.
Senior Levi Cooper was the only Sun Devil to pick up a victory on Friday at Wells Fargo Arena, defeating Wisconsin’s seventh-seeded Connor Medbery, 3-2, in a solid upset in the second round of the consolation bracket to advance to the next round
There, Cooper faced The Citadel’s Odie Delaney for a chance to stay alive but was pinned at the 5:18 mark of the contest and eliminated from the competition.
ASU’s two other student-athletes in action were both eliminated in their first matches of the day in the consolation bracket.
Illinois’ Tony Dallago defeated redshirt sophomore Jake Meredith was knocked out of the competition in a 6-3 decision to Maryland’s Christian Boley.
ASU will finish the competition with 4.0 points, though their final placement will not be official until the conclusion of the weekend’s event.
