LOS ANGELES - Arizona State softball (29-3, 0-1 Pac-12) dropped the Pac-12 Conference opener at UCLA (24-4, 1-0 Pac-12) with a score of 3-2 on Friday night.
Dallas Escobedo garnered the loss after six innings and five strikeouts, dropping her to 15-3 overall and 0-1 in Pac-12. Ally Carda got UCLA's the win in the upset, moving her to 15-2 overall and 1-0 in Pac-12.

The Sun Devils fell behind 2-0 in the opening inning after a two-out rally saw Stephanie LaRosa walk and then come home with Ally Carda's two-run homer to left.
Freshman Nikki Girard notched her second home run of the season to cut the UCLA lead to 2-1 in the fifth. Alix Johnson followed two batters later reaching by fielder's choice and getting to second on a Bruin error. A sacrifice fly by Haley Steele scored Johnson, unearned, to make it a 2-2 ballgame.
UCLA took the lead once more, this time in the bottom of the sixth. B. B. Bates homered to right for a 3-2 Bruin lead, making each of the UCLA runs plated via homer.
With only three outs left to tie it again, the Sun Devils were unable to bring in a run in the top of the seventh, falling for just the third time this season.
