Sun Devil Star of the Week

Ryan Kellogg
  • Kellogg did not allow a hit after the third inning en route to his fourth victory of the season, and gave up just one earned run, struck out two and walked three in seven innings
  • Retired 10 of 11 batters in the middle innings to shut down the Cougars' vaunted offense and secure the Sun Devils' first conference win
  • Also made a few great defensive plays, including a tag at home plate to turn the double play with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third inning to keep the Cougars off the board.
  • Maintained his conference-low 0.93 ERA (among starting pitchers) with the outing and ranks among the top of the Pac-12 with his four wins in five appearances
  • Has allowed just one earned run in his past 15 innings pitched dating back to the sixth inning against Arkansas on March 2
  • 3/13-3/17 Recap
ASU is the only team in the Pac-12 to have three players rank in the top 10 in slugging percentage (7. Trever Allen - .563; 8. James McDonald - .561; 7. 9. Michael Benjamin- .533)...Benjamin collected a hit in all four games to extend his team-leading hitting streak to 16 games...Allen led the way with five RBI on six hits over the week, including a 4-for-5, four-RBI performance in Sunday's series finale against WSU...freshman right-hander Ryan Burr collected his third save of the season after striking out the side in the ninth inning on Saturday in a 4-1 win over WSU...center fielder Kasey Coffman hit his second 11th-inning walk-off single of the year in a 4-3 win over New Mexico on Wednesday...right-hander Mark Lambson made his first appearance since June 2011 and allowed just one earned run in six innings over two appearances...right-hander Zak Miller made his first start of the season against New Mexico and did not allow an earned run in three innings...the Devils' pitching staff held New Mexico to just three runs, all unearned, after the Lobos had scored in double figures in six straight games...ASU averaged nearly 3,000 fans per game last week at Packard Stadium, including a season-high 3,467 on Friday night.
