TEMPE, Ariz. - Left-hander Ryan Kellogg and the 13th-ranked Arizona State University baseball team evened its three-game series with a 4-1 victory over Washington State on Saturday night in front of 3,198 fans at Packard Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

Kellogg (4-0) did not allow a hit after the third inning en route to his fourth victory of the season. He struck out two and walked three in seven innings, and retired 10 of 11 batters in the middle innings to secure the Sun Devils' (12-3-1, 1-1) first conference win.

The Cougars (10-7, 1-1) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-out RBI single, but ASU evened the score in the bottom of the frame with an RBI fielder's choice by catcher Max Rossiter that scored center fielder Kasey Coffman, who reached on a leadoff walk.

The Sun Devils used an unconventional double play in the top of the third inning to keep the game tied at one run apiece before breaking it open with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

WSU had the bases loaded with one out, but Kellogg induced a swinging strikeout on a wild pitch that Rossiter was then able to corral and throw the lead runner out at home to keep the Cougars off the board.

Third baseman Michael Benjamin extended his 15-game hitting streak with a leadoff single to begin the bottom of the inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly by center fielder Trever Allen, before left fielder Jake Peevyhouse and first baseman David Graybill each notched a two-out RBI with a single and double, respectively, to put ASU ahead, 4-1.

Right-hander Alex Blackford and left-hander Matt Dunbar combined to pitch a scoreless eighth inning and right-hander Ryan Burr (3) struck out the side in the ninth to collect his third save of the season.

WSU starter Tanner Chleborad (2-3) took his second loss of the year after conceding four runs, including one earned, on nine hits while striking out four in six innings.
